5. How did you attract/adress your audience?

4. Who woul be the audience for your media product?

my main and targeted audience is young teenage girls, it is also aimed at boys who are interested in the music that i am also representing. i have already given an example of my target audience which is shown below

My target Audience is young adults, aged from 16-21. The picture shown is a dancer named, Yazmin who is 20 years old. She studies at a university for dance in east London and teaches urban street dance as her job. Her hobbies are going out with friends, performing at shows and going clubbing, she goes to clubs which play and have artists who perform urban music.
Her fashion style and makeup styles all match the urban dance music theme, she shops in different places such as urban outfitters in London, Camden, JD, Topshop and many more. All of these shops are very unique which is part of an urban group. Dancers all usually specialise to dance to urban/dance type of music, this is because it is modern and is liked my many young teenagers. Yazmin is a very clear example of a young adult who is interested in urban music, in many different ways, this is by enjoying, concerts, clubs and dancing to this type of music.
She is a very confident type of person to dress and act involving urban music, her clothing is very unique and expensive as they are up to date fashion and sometimes made specially for a specific person.
Yazmin is only interested in urban/dance music. She has starred in Channel U videos which play and show urban music. She attends concerts with artists who perform urban/dance music with friends. Her favourite artists, for example, Donaeo, Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Solange Knowles, Keisha Cole, Brick 'n' Lace, Kevin Little, and many more. However, she is also open and introduces a lot of different types of music, including, RnB, some pop, and Funky House.
She finds all urban performers attractive, and has many idols of where she gets ideas for being unique, fashion sense and including dance.
Yazmin watches many different music channels, and especially MTV as they have dance shows regularly.
Yazmin is a really good example and representation of who my target audience is as her style is classed as unique, funky and fun. She is happy and very determined in dancing to urban music and representing them as a good type of genre of music. With my magazine i want to create a young adult themed, unique and modernised magazine that will attract a person that has all these personality traits i have shown about Yazmin. I want my magazine to represent and appeal to people about urban music and the fashion side too.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

There are many different institutions which could possibly distribute my media product but the main one which I have researched and analysed thoroughly is Vibe Vixen. They are unique and also represent the social group, Urban/R’n’B. Even though the magazines we have are different to each other they use the same type of target audience and people to model on their magazines from the way they dress and from what they are known as in the music industry. They are all the same and contrast with each other. They distribute their magazines all differently and have different styles on each magazine they produce but they keep the same styled headings on each of their magazines to classify and represent them as their own institution which is Vibe Vixen.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The ways in which my media products represent particular social groups is stated and shown very clearly by the different types of conventions, images, fonts, and the way my main text is placed around my images. My social group is Urban themed and this is all shown and represented within my magazine products very clearly on a whole. For example on my front page I have a young but well known comeback music artist which represents the urban life, my main heading of the magazine also represents Urban groups as the heading associates with it being ‘Urban Air’. This is a clear example and representation of my social group. There are over features I have used such as the style of my writing and the colours, these are all different and separate themselves from other music magazines such as Q and NME which have different conventions to represent and attract their social groups as a whole. On my magazine I also have separate pictures which are lined and associated with the main image artist and this is very important to represent my social group, Urban, as fun, young, and ‘hyped’. The ways in which I have worded pieces of text I have place upon my front page, contents page, and double page spread also represent my urban social group.

1. Double Page Spread

there are many different ways in which both media products shown above challenge forms and conventions of typical magazines and they both attract the same audience but in different ways. For instance, for the Self Obsession magazine it is very plain with a split of only one magazine on the left hand side of the spread whereas mine goes across in a different way with bright colours, images but uses the same similar conventions as the main heading about the article is bold and stands out from the magazine overall. The text used is also different in both the double page spreads as in most magazines the main heading about the article on double page spread goes across the page whereas on these magazines they are placed differentlly in different areas. as you can see from the last media products i have shown they are all quite plain and standard which obviously attracts a speicifc target audience whereas my conventions are similar but much more visible and eye catching.

1. Contents Page

next i will be explaining in what ways the media product contents page shown and my media product develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products. Firstly i find that the magazine product contents page has very different themes, firstly my contents page is very bright and bold with other images than the main one whereas in the real media product there is only one image and this is the main model, the text is small but makes it seem sophisticated and brings the main attraction to the model. there is all the main heading conventions of a typical contents page which is the same as mine also.

AS Media- Coursework Evaluation, 1.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
There are many ways in which the front, contents page, and double page spread of my media products was used to develop, challenge the forms and conventions compare and contrasted to other real media products.
Before I started designing and planning my media product I researched specific magazines which have similar conventions and systems of how they attract their target audience.

The first front cover magazine I found was a magazine called Vibe Vixen, this is shown below.
as you can see from the two magazines below, the one on the left is a real media product called Vibe Vixen and My final media front page product on the right. They both follow many of the same conventions and challenges such as the pugs placed in the top hand corner with a free gift placed on the top. They both have bold and text which stands out, this also includes bright colours which also stands out to the audience. The text such as the heading is big and takes up most of the page for the vibe vixen magazine, and mine is placed at the top also and is rather big. Going on to the main image which is the vital convention which captures target audiences attention, as you can see vibe vixen uses a famous music artist 'Rihanna', who also matches the theme of the front of the cover as the colours contrast with each other well. This also apply's to my magazine as the clothes she is dressed on matches the colour scheme of the magazine overall. Vibe Vixen fits all there conventions in very well and it is also the style for their to be different fonts and lettering which is all sized different, this is how they attract their particular audience and separate their magazine from other typical magazines. my magazine also does this by the matching 3 but bright colours which also include a different variety of fonts which also fit in well and attract the target audience i was looking to attract. The way that Vixen Vibe positioned their text around the main image of 'Rihanna' is a challenging form and convention which i have also done by placing my text to fit and separate it from the main image so everything shown is clear.

Analysis of Magazine Contents Pages

Contents Page One

Vibe- October 2008

What mood/impression do the colours create?
The ways in which this contents page of Vibe Magazine that I have been analysing has a detailed and unique impression and mood set to the target audience of the type of music genre for the magazine. I will be explaining the entire contents page by justifying the use of colours and how they have been used, how they contrast or contrast against each other to give the contents page of the magazine a different and exclusive result than other magazines, this magazine appeals and attracts a target audience of young teenagers and young adults who are interested and listen to urban/dance music.

To begin with, upon the contents page, the background is clear but is a fade away effect from the top starting with a dark black and then fading down to black and almost white, this makes the contents on the page and the image contrast with each other to make it easier for readers to read and attract them for the right reasons.

The title is placed at the top and is in bold, big lettering in white, as I have said before it contrasts against the black at the top and then fades away. The text shown on the left side of the magazine is in dark but bold colouring which is also easy to read and attractive without having to be too colourful and over the top like some magazines which tend to seem cluttered most of the time. As sometimes the colours do not contrast and go well with each other.

The colouring of the model ‘Ciara's’ shoe is also a dark purple colour, which once again contrasts and make the attraction on the model and text, as it is a bold statement against the text which is also bold and against her legs, so also easy to read.
The fonts are bold, but also seem like a nice neat handwriting but created in a way once again to be distinguished clearly for readers and to attract the correct readers.

Design*

How do the words and images fit together?

What fonts and styles of lettering have been used, and what do they suggest?
The design which is shown on the Vibe contents page featuring with a main image of ‘Ciara’, has a clear design of the top heading quoting ‘Contents’, is cut down in sections underneath each other, shown as CO-NTEN-TS. This is a bold and an upfront font which makes it clear to read and knows what the page includes and what type of page it is. The top heading is a different font to the text which is shown below on the left hand side, as it has to separate itself from one another so the readers will not get confused of what connects with which text.
The words and images on this contents page fit together very well, for instance as you can see from the image, they have positioned the model ‘Ciara’ in a way that they can also fit the features of the magazines around her. This is a very good piece of creativity shown to attract the correct target audience.
The designs are plain and clear also but show a modern feel to the magazine overall and very up to date, they have also designed it in a way so that it is not cluttered and there is not much to read it just gets straight to the point for the readers to know what will be inside the magazine. Overall it is a good indication for what’s going to be inside, and interest’s the target audience readers of the magazine.

Images*

Who or what is featured, and what does it represent to their specific chosen audience?
There is only one image shown on Vibe Magazines contents page and this is a long shot of a well known music artist called, ‘Ciara’, this then shows the full image in a lot of detail which can be used for many different reasons, such as the way they are dressed so fashion, style of music by using the correct music artist. The image and text shown aren’t colourful like most contents pages, it is uncluttered and has clear bold black and white text. The heading separates itself from the text shown to indicate page numbers of different articles inside the magazine. This sets a representation to a specific target audience as the target audience being young teenagers and young adults aim at just getting to the point and to know straight away what they are going to read about and what they want to read in the magazine. The magazine features on the contents page are not really aimed at a male or female audience as it hasn’t got indication of many colours for this, but as there is a well know music artist, many young female adults will be attracted to this as she is dressed up to date and will then look up to her and want to read the stories inside.

Pose, style of hair, makeup*
The pose and image shown on this contents page inside, Vibe is one main image of a popular music artist ‘Ciara’ and is posing and positioned once again to fit all the different features around her on the contents page. She is lying down with her legs up in the air, and is sort of representing an expensive kind of genre for the magazine overall. Her clothing also sets a typical urban theme as it is quite revealing but unique at the same time and attracts the aimed target audience once again.
The pose and the way the image has been made are shown as 3D which makes the contents page much more interesting. Her hair style is long and drags across the floor also, her hair colour also contrasts well with the colours used as it is black and her makeup is also plain and natural, so not over the top with too many colours which can make the whole contents page not adjust well together, and can make readers and the target audience not be as attracted to it as they might of been if particular pieces of information and images were changed to adjust much more effectively.

How are the words used on the cover?
the contents page within Vibe magazine, does not have much text but there are main parts which stand out, such as the heading ‘contents’ is in a large text, bold and connects with the whole page, so it doesn’t clash and represent as boring. The colour of the heading and text are themed as black and white. This is without any patterns which show to the readers and plain and easy to read text so they can just get straight to the point of what they want to read. The text and background is a black and dark grey colour which makes the heading seem and suggests to readers that it is important and can be seen from a distance without it being difficult to read if small. The words and text used underneath the heading show the popular and well known music artists which are going to be included within the magazine. This attracts the specific target audience of the magazine so they will buy it as they know what they will be reading once purchased.

Size and layout- are they big enough to be read from a there distance?
The size and layout of the contents page within Vibe magazine, are large and presentable for all different types of readers, it is eye-catching to be read and seen by a distance without getting uninterested and not wanting to read on through the magazine. The reasons why they will stand out to readers are from all the points that I have explained and justified above by the contents page.

Language*

How does it address the reader and grab his/her attention?

What language features can you identify?
The ways that the magazine is addressed specifically to the target audience readers is by the short snappy heading and text to follow through to the magazine. The heading and text is not overly long and attracts the audience as they can read it quickly without having difficulty in understanding specific text.

Overall impression*

Does it have a good indication of what is inside?
The overall impression of this contents page within Vibe magazine is for many reasons due to the short and snappy heading and the way the images and text fit together. I have explained all this above but it has fashion statements to urban music, the font is modern and up to date, her fashion and makeup is unique which attracts a young teenage/adult audience and is also aimed at girls not boys.

Contents Page Analysis ♫

Analysis of Magazine Contents Pages

Contents Page Two

Urban Music Based

Colours*

What mood/impression do the colours create?

This contents page shown above sets a very different mood and impression aside from other typical magazine content pages. To start with the image is taken over by the text and they are dressed in sexy summery clothes. The background of the contents page is a grey fade to white and this makes the models seem 3D, as there is also a light shade of shadows behind them. The text is all in black and this also is set apart from the way the models are dressed as they have colourful clothes on and this very unique for a magazine contents page to be set out like this.

Design*

How do the words and images fit together?

What fonts and styles of letterings have been used, and what do they suggest?

There is not many designs shown on this contents page but this is meant to be the design, plain and clear for readers to get straight to the point. It is also attracting a specific target audience to be more attracted to the well known popular urban music artists shown, and less on the text even though this is very important. The words and images do not fit together as they are set apart from each other because they are separated so it’s clear to read once again.

The main heading is split down as CO-NTEN-TS rather than CONTENTS and this is because they use this on all contents page for this specific magazine and this sets the representation of magazine apart from other magazines so it can be known just by the way the heading has been used and the fonts.  The title is bold and black.

The other text on the left hand side of the ‘models’ have headings above smaller pieces of text which guide readers to different pages of the magazines. The headings above are represented as headings because they are in a different font and it seems to be bigger and clear to what the pages will be about in different sections.

Images*

Who or what is featured, and what does it represent to their specific audience?

The images featured on the contents page is of two well known urban music artists standing together and this represents an attraction from the specific target audience to want to read the magazine if there ‘idol’ and music artists who they are interested will be mentioned inside. This is also done so that they can understand what the magazine is about and what type of stuff will be advertised and talked about. The way they are dressed also attracts a specific audience because many people of this target audience are interested in dressing this way and also the fashion side of urban music-by-music artists.

Pose, style of hair, make-up*

The poses shown by the two music artists on this contents page are dressed ‘sexy’ and ‘sassy’. This involves them into the contents page and it makes the images seem much more important to represent the magazine than the text. The images also attract the specific target audience to see from a distance and to know what type of magazine it is and what it will be about inside.

By having two popular, unique music artists posing side by side with extreme accessories, hairstyles and makeup attracts the audience to want to read the articles and understand clearly the genre of music there is. The way they are posing with the background also makes the music artists have a 3d effect and this makes the contents page much more realistic and interesting for readers. The music artist on the left has long hair with a stylish dress and is not overly dressed whereas the music artist on the right has long hair also but is dressed less like the other music artist, such as her clothing and makeup is different and more overt to be seen from a distance and attracts the specific target audience that the magazine aims for.

How are the words used on the cover?

The contents page show above does not have much detail concerning text, but has enough to locate readers where to look for particular articles they are looking for inside to read. The main heading is Contents, which is bold, and easy to read, it is also not very large so it does not take up the whole cover of the contents page and focuses much more on the music artists and text on the side. This also adjusts well with the page so it does not clash and is not boring for the reader. The colour of the heading and all text is all in black, but some have different fonts, which separates different stories or headings away from each other. There are not many patterns, as the image is the main side to be seen of the contents page. The text is easy to read as the background has a plain and clear colouring.

All these points attract the specific target audience to buy and know what they will be reading easily once purchased.

Size and layout- are they big enough to be read from a distance?

The size and layout of the contents page within this magazine are large and presentable for all different readers, it is eye-catching also and can be seen clearly and easily from a distance.

Language*

How does it address the reader and grab his/her attention?

What language features can you identify?

The ways that the magazine is addressed to the target audience is done by the short headings and text, which follow through to the magazine. The heading and text is not long or hard to read which then attracts the audience because it is easy to read without difficulty in understanding or reading the text.

Overall impression*

Does it have a good indication of what is inside?

The overall impression of this contents page is for many points shown on the magazine, which I have explained above. Overall there are fashion statements made attached to the type of music it suits with and is very unique, set apart from many other contents pages in other magazine and also attracts girls and women who are interested in R n B, Hip Hop and Urban Music.

Vibe Contents Page ♫

Analysis of magazine contents pages

Contents Page Three

Vibe Magazine- Contents Page

What mood/impression do the colours create?

Compared to the last two contents pages I have analysed this contents page has many more images and colours, the colours are black, grey and red. This attracts an audience to be much more interested as the colours all contrast well with each other so they give a different and much more exclusive result than the different other magazines.

Firstly, the background of the contents page is plain which and this makes the text and the rest of the colours stand out more clearly and not being un cluttered to be hard to read.

The main heading on the top is normal sized but is bold and black, which is placed in the middle which makes it easy to read. this contrasts also with the other text placed. The text is placed mainly in the middle and is in black and grey, the heading above the different pieces of text are grey which contrasts once again. The images are also in colour and are shown in a fun way and make a fashion statement in the specific type of music.

Design*

How do the words and images fit together?

What fonts and styles of lettering have been used, and what do they suggest?

The main design shown on this contents page is very unique as there is many different modelling images with different music artists/model placed on the left and right side of the page, the text for the contents page link is placed in the middle and on the bottom right side of the contents page. The images and words fit together equally as they are separated and easy to read for the readers. The top heading is also a different font and size to the other pieces of text placed.

The designs are also plain and clear also but represent a give a modern, unique feel overall to the magazine, it is also designed with many different pieces of information and images but they fit well together so its not too cluttered. The contents page also has a good, clear indication of what’s inside and attracts the specific target audience of the magazine.

Also at the bottom of the page on the right hand side there is a separate article with bold lines separating it from the other text and images, it also has a bold, and large letter in red which stands out from the rest of the magazine as it is all black and bold but the red stands out against it. The main heading for each of the articles in this separate box has red bold headings and the explanation beneath is in black and smaller text.

Images*

Who or what is featured, and what does it represent to their specific chosen audience?

There is 5 images shown on this contents page and they are all full long shots which allows the reader to see the full length of the models/music artists, this is done so they know who it is clearly and represents the type of magazine. This shows their fashion, style of music once again by using the correct frames, backgrounds and models/music artists. The images text shown on top of the images are in white, which stands out against the background image of the photo. This all sets a representation to the specific target audience as the target audience is young teenagers and young adults, girls and boys and this contents page has a lot of information and images which attract this type of audience. The magazine features, for instance the images are all male models/music artists but this does not mean that it only attracts males or just females, as males may want to read about them or see the way they are dressed and females may also be attracted as they may be attracted to them and enjoy there music.

The stories are also up to date and the fashion also which attracts the readers to read more of what’s inside.

Pose, style of hair, makeup*

The pose and image shown on the contents page has 5 images in 5 different areas with 5 different models, they are not posing in any specific placed but they are all set in different moods as they are in different places with different areas. This also sets an urban theme due to where they are and the way they are style with hair, fashion etc.

The images are shown as 3D also have makes the images and text much more interesting to read overall. All the models/music artists fit very well with the urban/R n B theme very well and all the different text fonts and colours.

This makes readers and the target audience much more attracted to read their wanted pieces of information and they can see all the good points of the magazines contents page and have clear images and headings to read and look at easily without struggle.

How are the words used on the cover?

The words on this contents page of Vibe magazine are all different and there is a lot of text used.

The heading is bold and very presentable and easy to read, the other pieces of text are also bold but in much smaller text to fit clearer on the page. The words are short and less explanation is used in some places. There are many images which means that the readers may focus more on the images than the text that’s why the text is placed in the middle in bold writing and on the bottom corner with borders and different coloured text to show and represent a new piece of information of the contents for the magazine overall.

The specific target audience of this magazine will buy this magazine, as they will have a clear idea of what is inside and what they will be reading once they buy it.

Size and layout- are they big enough to be read from a there distance?

The size and layout of the contents page shown is very easy and clear which makes it all fit well together for all different types of readers this will attract them as it is not a struggle to read and is not over cluttered with too many images and text. It is also eye-catching by the normal black and white writing and the red text shown at the bottom. The points I have explained above justify the whole contents page of who and where would by this magazine.

Language*

How does it address the reader and grab his/her attention?

What language features can you identify?

The language used is short and snappy headings and text, this is to follow through the whole magazine. The heading is designed in a special way, which I have already explained and pointed out above. The heading and text is not long and attracts the audience, as it is easy to read quickly without having any difficult in understand specific text.

Overall impression*

Does it have a good indication of what is inside?

The overall impression set by this contents page in vibe magazine has many different points to set a specific mood and impression and this is by the images and text which fits very well together. I have explained all of this above but it also sets fashion statements which links to the music also as there is text below and on the side, which explains this. This attracts both side of young teenagers and young adults being males and females overall for all the points I have explained through above.

Urban Music- Target Audience ♫

My target Audience is young adults, aged from 16-21. The picture shown is a dancer named, Yazmin who is 20 years old. She studies at a university for dance in east London and teaches urban street dance as her job. Her hobbies are going out with friends, performing at shows and going clubbing, she goes to clubs which play and have artists who perform urban music.

All of these shops are very unique which is part of an urban group. Dancers all usually specialise to dance to urban/dance type of music, this is because it is modern and is liked my many young teenagers.

Vibe Vixen ♫

Analysis of Magazine Covers

Magazine Two

Vixen Vibe- Urban Music Based

Colours*

What mood/impression do the colours create?

The ways in which this specific magazine that i have analysed has a specific and unique mood and impression set to show a particular target audience and I will be once again explaining this below with all the different aspects involved to achieve this. Firstly I will be explaining and justifying the use of colours and how they are used and how they may contrast or not adjust with each other to give the magazine a different and unique effect to attract the young teenage and young adult audience of urban music.

Firstly, there is a light coloured and attractive outstanding purple clear background, this makes the important and vial pieces of information which is going to be the contents of the magazine stand out and it also contrasts with a popular and well known singer with a wide long shot of 'Rihanna'. The cover lines shown are colourful and shown in all different colours to show something different and unique.

These different parts are very important to a magazine as they determine and represent the magazine on a whole as exciting, fun to read, interesting and popular due to the type of magazine, this is done mainly by the bright colours which is aimed at young adults and girls, and bold writing in different fonts which also gives the magazine a different type of effect and separates itself from other music magazines. The ways in which the singer ‘Rihanna’ on the cover is attractive and make the magazine look much more presentable is because she is attractive, young, fashionable, fun and funky and all these points link to urban music.

Design*

How do the words and images fit together?

What fonts and styles of lettering have been used, and what do they suggest?

The design shown of the magazine featuring ‘Rihanna’, Vixen Vibe, is that the design of writing is bold and clear use of fonts of text is used. The fonts are all similar so they contrast and fit well with each other and will then not look ‘tacky’ and ‘clash’ among each other. It will also make the magazine look poorly presented. The next point to support the designs of the magazine is the photo of ‘Rihanna’ where there is a clear and bold text, which introduces an exclusive interview with a famous music artist. The design of the font of text used is very unique and funky which also adapts to urban music once again. They are also modern and up-to-date, if it was old fashioned designs used then it will not work and appeal to the correct audience who like urban music.

Images*

Who or what is featured, and what does it represent to their specific chosen audience?

The main image shown on this cover magazine is a wide medium shot of ‘Rihanna’, this shows the full image in detail to show off the fashion and style of music of the artist. The images are colourful and show very clear use of designs including a ‘Free Competition to win a FREE trip to ‘paradise’, by doing this they are attracting a wide range of people to want to buy the magazine, there is also a ‘pug’ which is in a different colour so its clear to see and indicates the page number. There are many ‘girly’ and urban-featured colours and fonts.

Pose, style of hair, makeup*

The pose and image shown is ‘Rihanna’ on the cover whilst she is doing a girly pose but the clothing sets an urban theme so it attracts the aimed target audience again.

Shadows are also shown which creates an effect of the music artist ‘Rihanna’ who is in front of a purple background in a photo shoot. This also represents the magazine to be fun and funky. The style of her hair is short and unique once again with instinctive purple highlights which contrasts again with the theme and background colours of the magazine. It also involves her into the magazine much more and makes her look like a vital part to be seen more inside. This then attracts the audience to her style and the style is based on urban music fashion styles, and music artists. The makeup and fashion statement being shown on Vixen Vibe is all contrasting but a fun and exciting colour theme, which is matched by different features shown.

She is dressed with a ‘sexy’ dark blue, shiny suit, her makeup has dark colours, which contrasts once again, her clothes are seen as sophisticated, fashionable and sexy. It is set to suit urban themes due to her Jewellery setting a big statement also.

This will then make the main and vital image stand out to readers and to attract the target audience from a distance whilst shopping.

How are the words used on the cover?

The title/heading used on the cover of Vixen Vibe is a large bold, font, which connects once again for the urban theme, to be set. The colouring of the heading is a plain and clear white without any patterns, this also makes it stand out as the two colours are the opposite of each other so go well as one. By doing this it makes the title seem important to be seen from a distance for example. On the cover it also shows and suggests many different popular and well-known music artists in the urban side of music. There are also articles shown that are going to be inside.

Size and layout- are they big enough to be read from a distance?

The size and layout are large and presentable, it is also attractive to be read and seen by a far distance. They will also stand out because of all the points that I have made above. This will then attract the target audience as it will be interesting for them and would want to read inside.

Self Obsession- Follow Magazine ♫

Double Page Spread Analysis

Self-Obsession double page spread by Follow Magazine

Colours*

What mood/impression do the colours create upon the double page spread?

The self obsession double page spread is presented and shown with a white background which makes the magazine seem clearer and to focus much more on the writing and the images and background is black and white. The colours set an impression of quite dull but clear and organised which shows a clear and fun approach for the target audience. The boldest writing is the heading for the information upon the double page spread, known as ‘self obsession’ and this is all white and big which once again contrasts against the girl who is coloured in black and white, so the text is still visible.

It is very unique as not a lot of ordinary magazines, such as pop and rock are set out like this for their double page spreads, they are usually colourful and have many different images which cover the whole front cover or double page spread, whereas this double spread in urban 'Follow' music magazine has one image which is placed on the first side of the page and the writing is all bold and just has an article of black writing and small fonts which contrasts with the image of the model. The model on the double page spread is shown as modern but also attracts an urban audience at the same time as is represented as 'cool' and 'stylish', for example her hair stands out and is swept across her face. All these points i have mentioned all links to urban music and magazines, it shows that urban music and magazines are unique and contrast together at the same time, so this then means it goes well as one magazine and attracts the right target audience.

Design*

How do the words and images fit together?

What fonts and styles of lettering have been used and what do they suggest?

The design shown on the double page spread features a model who is dressed in an urban style, and the whole double page spread is in black and white which makes the image and text stand out at the same time. The font of the full text is small but bold, and the main heading printed across the models chest is bold and big lettering in white, which contrasts against the black and white colouring.

All together the design of the double page spread ‘self obsession’ on Follow magazine, is plain but makes it look clear and outstanding, it is presented and shown very well as a lot of people will be able to see and understand the information printed on the double page spread. The design is also unique and adapts to the music of urban tracks, which attracts the correct audience. If the double page spread was made to be old fashioned or not unique it will not attract the right audience and appeal to the teenagers who are interested in urban music.

Images*

Who or what is featured, and what does it represent to the specific chosen audience?

The main and final image shown on the double page spread inside Follow magazine, is a low angle shot of a model, even though the whole double page spread is in black and white, the model stands out on the magazine and once again matches to suit the urban music themes. By doing all of this and making the images and text clear for readers to understand, they are therefore attracting the correct and helping the wide range of people who will look at the double page spread whilst reading the magazine and will then be interested to read the article shown on the page.

Pose, Style of Hair, Makeup*

The pose and image shown on the double page spread is of a model with a low angle mid shot view of a girl with hair brushing across her face, it is a normal urban typical unique theme shot. This once again attracts the target audience to be attracted to her clothing, hair and style all together. There are no shadows and as it has been placed with a plain white background so the image seems solid and not 3d.

All of this attracts the specific target audience represents it to be modern and urban themed. It also involves her in the magazine and shows that the text and article will be about her or the type of fashion and images she is dressed and represented as. There are not many features shown which gives an uncluttered view and makes it easier for readers to know and understand what they can read.

The black and white effect contrasts together and the model stands out which makes her seem important and to stand out on the page to attract the target audience from a distance, which is also whilst looking through the magazine.

How are the words used on the double page spread?

The title and heading used on the double page spread is large and bold, this connects with the colours and fonts once again for the urban theme. The colouring of the main heading printed across the girl is plain and clear white without any patterns, this once again makes it stand out as the two colours are the opposite of each other, being black and white, so therefore go well as one print for the magazines double page spread. This also makes the title and heading of the double page spread seem vital to be seen from a distance whilst reading so the readers will be aware of the article on the full page next to it.
